The foundation stone of the Czech Oncological Institute – Motol Oncological Centre has been tapped

On the 10th of October 2023 at 10 a.m., the construction of the Czech Oncological Institute – Motol oncological centre started in the premises of the Motol University Hospital. It is the biggest healthcare project financed by the National Recovery Plan.

The ceremony of tapping the foundation stone was attended by the representative of the European Commission, the Minister of Health – Vlastimil Válek, the Director of the Motol University Hospital – Miloslav Ludvík, and also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of GEMO a.s. – Ing. Jaromír Uhýrek and other representatives of the Motol UH.

The Motol Oncological Centre will be designed as an annex to the current Department of Paediatric Oncology. GEMO a.s. is now starting the preparatory works on the construction. The contract of more than 3,7 billion CZK has to be finished till the end of 2025.

The construction of the Czech Oncological Institute – Motol Oncological Centre is a large-scale project, that will significantly strengthen the possibilities of the fight against the oncological diseases in the Czech Republic. The project is financed by the European Union and will be focused on providing the comprehensive oncological care, including the prevention, diagnosis, and the oncological, radiotherapeutic and the surgical treatment. The increase of the bed capacity will improve the availability of the oncological care throughout the Czech Republic and will strengthen and make more efficient the cooperation of the experts among the multidisciplinary teams.

“It will bring a dramatic shift in the availability and quality of the care for the patients. It will give us two centres, that will have a strong position in the Europe and therefore we will gain the access to the modern treatment and the medicines, that would not otherwise come to the Czech Republic,” emphasised by the Minister of Health – Vlastimil Válek.
