Olomouc, 9th of December 2025

On 6 December, the company GEMO celebrated 35 years of successful operation in the Czech and Slovak construction markets.

The story began in 1990. “Our very first project was the reconstruction of a small chapel in Loučany near Olomouc with a budget of 200,000 Czech crowns. In the first months of our business, we primarily focused on specialist foundation work and the assembly of reinforced concrete structures, but we soon moved into the complete execution of projects in the building construction (or general construction) segment,” explains the founder, CEO, and owner, Ing. Jaromír Uhýrek.

Over three and a half decades, we have developed into one of the leading general contractors in the field of building construction and a significant developer, headquartered in Olomouc with offices in Prague. We remain fully Czech-owned to this day. We have completed over 1,300 projects with a total value exceeding 75 billion Czech crowns, for which we have received over 50 industry awards. The GEMO team currently consists of over 470 core employees. This year’s expected turnover should reach a record 7 billion Czech crowns.

GEMO Yesterday and Today

“My original vision was simple and straightforward: to build with quality, fairness, and on time. To have our own core team of craftsmen and technicians and not to shy away from technically demanding structures. The reality today? Fundamentally, it’s no different – we are just significantly larger, more sophisticated, and in addition to being a general contractor, we are also an investor and developer. But it still holds true that a good reputation is our most valuable asset,” adds Jaromír Uhýrek.

We currently have several projects underway, each valued in the high single-digit billions of Czech crowns. We focus on residential, administrative, commercial, and sports projects. We have a long-term emphasis on quality of execution, reliability, technical development, and sustainable procedures, which is reflected in our stable market position.

Significant current projects include the Dornych multifunctional centre in Brno, the HILA and Motol Oncology Centre projects in Prague, as well as the long-term development of the SUOMI Hloubětín district, and participation in the SMÍCHOV CITY SOUTH project. We recently completed the frequently media-discussed Horácká Arena in Jihlava and the expansion of the Westfield Černý Most shopping centre. In Olomouc, construction is underway on Pavilion B of the University Hospital, and we are finalising the completion of the Palacký University Faculty of Medicine campus. In the residential sector, we are continuing with the Vila Park Balcárkova and Neředín Garden residential projects.

GEMO in the Role of Developer

We are also developing our own development portfolio, which ranges from our historically first project, the GEMO Hotel in 1994, through sports facilities and a hotel with congress facilities in Olomouc, several shopping centre projects in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, up to the current preparations for the extensive Nová Okružní residential district in Olomouc, which includes almost 900 new flats.

GEMO is a Good Neighbour Wherever It Builds

In addition to our role as a significant employer, we actively participate in supporting community life, sport, education, and culture in all regions where we operate. In Olomouc, where the company has been headquartered since 1990, we provide long-term support to organisations such as the Haimaom Foundation, Charity Šternberk, SPOLU Olomouc, and Náruč dětem.

Plans for the Coming Years

“Our goal is to solidify our position as one of the leading Czech construction and development groups in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. We would like to focus on the high value-added construction segment, such as healthcare buildings or buildings for science and research; we are also interested in next-generation offices. However, given the housing shortage in our country, we want to continue building new, modern flats with quality architecture and design. In terms of regional focus, we would like to increase the number of projects realised in Slovakia. And finally, we certainly want to dedicate ourselves to the development of our own portfolio, including the construction of rental housing according to market needs,” specifies Jaromír Uhýrek.

Growing Thanks to You

35 years of successful operation in the construction market is proof of our professionalism, responsible approach, and the strong trust of our partners and customers. It also demonstrates our ability to consistently succeed in a demanding competitive environment and confirms that we have been moving in the right direction for 35 years. For this, we owe a great debt of gratitude to all our employees, business partners, and investors who share our journey.
