New Building of the Faculty of Economics at VSB-TUO Welcomes Students for the Academic Year

On the symbolic date of September 9th at 9:00 AM, the ceremonial handover of the completed extension of the Faculty of Economics at the VSB – Technical University of Ostrava (VSB-TUO) took place.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was carried out by VSB-TUO Rector Václav Snášel, Minister of Education, Youth and Sports Mikuláš Bek, Deputy Governor of the Moravian-Silesian Region Šárka Šimoňáková, Dean of the Faculty of Economics Vojtěch Spáčil, and Mayor of Ostrava Jan Dohnal.

 

The ceremony was also attended by representatives of GEMO a.s., including the project management team, along with Ondřej Foukal, Director of the Moravia and Slovakia Division, and Jaromír Uhýrek, Chairman of the Board of GEMO a.s.

 

The building, which GEMO constructed in a joint venture with Hochtief CZ a.s., began in December 2021and was completed in early 2024. Over the summer, furniture and study equipment were installed, ensuring that students of economics would begin the new academic year in the new building.

 

The four-story building is integrated into the urban structure of the existing campus buildings at the VSB-TUO. In addition to dining facilities, a lecture hall, modern classrooms, and teacher’s lounges, the building is equipped with environmentally friendly technologies, such as a rainwater retention system for reuse, 409 photovoltaic panels with a capacity of 150 kW, waste heat recovery, and green roofs.
