PRESS RELEASE                                                                                                                    17th of March 2026

GEMO a.s., a prominent player in the civil engineering sector, commenced construction work in early March on the extensive modernisation of the Slatina depot for the Brno City Transport Company (DPMB = Brno City Transport Company). The project, valued at over CZK 1 billion, will fundamentally transform one of the key transport facilities in the Czech Republic’s second-largest city. The large-scale expansion of the site includes the construction of a new two-storey parking facility featuring a service hall and a vehicle wash, the consolidation of previously scattered buildings into a more compact complex, and the integration of bus and trolleybus operations. All of this is being carried out without any restrictions for passengers. Completion of the project is scheduled for mid-2028.

The Slatina depot serves as a vital hub for Brno’s public transport system. Every day, dozens of buses and trolleybuses depart from the site, providing essential services across the city. Due to the ever-increasing demands on fleet capacity and operational efficiency, its modernisation and expansion have become a necessity.

“Executing such a large-scale project during full operations is always a technical and organisational challenge. Thanks to the modern Design & Build project delivery method, we can respond quickly to operational needs, optimise procedures, and minimise disruption,” explains Ing. Radek Nepustil, Project Manager at GEMO a.s., the project’s general contractor.

Technological Innovation and Sustainability

As part of the project, GEMO is implementing modern technological solutions. The centrepiece of the modernisation is the construction of a new two-storey vehicle parking facility, which will incorporate a service hall and a vehicle wash. A photovoltaic power plant will be installed on the roof of the building to provide local energy generation, thereby contributing to the reduction of both operating costs and the transport company’s environmental footprint.

The site will be equipped with advanced technologies for vehicle diagnostics and technical condition monitoring. These systems will enable rapid fault detection, optimised maintenance, and reduced downtime, leading to greater vehicle reliability in daily service.

Delivery via the Design & Build Method

The project is being delivered using the Design & Build method, which allows for a high degree of flexibility and efficiency. Given that work is being conducted during full operations, the project requires precise coordination, fully utilising GEMO’s engineering know-how. The scope of work also includes extensive utility diversions, temporary relocations of operational units, and adjustments to the logistics of vehicle movement within the premises.
