PRESS RELEASE                                                                                                        15 June 2026

At the end of May, the approval process for the construction of the National Oncology Center at the Motol and Homolka University Hospital was successfully completed, and the occupancy permit was issued. One of today’s largest healthcare projects will connect outpatient and inpatient oncology care, diagnostic departments, operating theaters, laboratories, and facilities for clinical trials and advanced treatment development within a single complex.

The new center was created through a combination of extensive reconstruction of an existing building and a modern extension. The result is a functionally interconnected medical complex featuring a central atrium, enclosed walkways, and logically linked operations. This design ensures efficient care organization and seamless patient movement across individual specialties. The project includes imaging departments equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including MRI, CT, mammography and screening units, and an endoscopy center.

“Inpatient oncology and the day oncology clinic will play a dominant role in the National Oncology Center. We also anticipate a significant amount of space dedicated to diagnostics, which will feature cutting-edge MRI and CT scanners, mammographs, an endoscopy center, and screening departments. Concurrently, we are preparing pharmacy facilities for the preparation of anti-cancer drugs and gene therapy. The concept of the medical operation is built on prevention, personalized medicine, and coordinated care, which we consider an integral part of a modern approach to oncological treatment today. The prevention center will primarily consist of screening programs. Among the key areas we will focus on at the National Oncology Center are accelerating the patient’s journey from suspected illness to correct treatment, specialized care for patients with rare oncological diagnoses, the clinical implementation of personalized and precision oncology, and the integration of clinical research, including early-phase drug development,” says Petr Polouček, MD, MBA, Director of Motol and Homolka University Hospital.

“We consider the significantly accelerated pace of the contractor, supported by a nearly doubled number of workers on site, to be one of the key factors that led to the timely completion of the project,” added Petr Polouček, hospital director.

The complex will also include spaces for healthcare staff education and professional conferences, including a lecture hall with a capacity of up to 120 people. The project placed emphasis not only on medical operations but also on the environment for patients and hospital employees. The campus is therefore complemented by green roofs and terraces, a central arcade with civic amenities, and relaxation zones connecting to the inner atrium.

“The completion of the National Oncology Center represents the culmination of an extraordinarily demanding project that was successfully delivered within the agreed scope, quality, and deadline. We highly appreciate the intensive cooperation with the new hospital management and all the professional teams, thanks to which it was possible to significantly accelerate the construction and obtain the occupancy permit within the timeframe required by the investor,” says Peter Baulovič, Project Manager at GEMO a.s.
