GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r.o.focuses on complete turnkey construction projects in civil engineering, i.e. new buildings and renovations in residential, community and industrial construction, including infrastructure. It also conducts design, engineering and real-estate activities, and, last but not least, carries out its own developer projects.

The company was established in 1990 and has its registered office in Olomouc, a metropolis of Central Moravia. However, it is active all over the Czech Republic and, at the end of 2008, it expanded its activities to Slovakia. The company’s strategy and growth are closely related to the name of its majority shareholder and general director Ing. Jaromír Uhýrek, supported by division directors and project managers. Direct operative management in this form undoubtedly has a positive effect over the company’s performance and is considered to be a considerable advantage compared to the company’s competitors in the construction industry.

GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r.o.currently has almost 500 full-time employees and is formed by the following independent centres:

• construction operations centre
• steel structure centre
• concrete-reinforcing steel production centre
• electro centre
• sanitary and heating centre
• machinery and rental centre
• monolithic structure centre
• geodetic engineering centre
• plasterboard centre
• utility line centre

As a result of changes in organisational structure implemented as of 1 January 2007, the company is now divided into the following divisions:

• Economic Division
• Legal and HR Division
• Sales Division
• Production Division
• Developer Project Division
• Certification and Occupational Safety Division
• Controlling and IT Division

Since its establishment, the company has expanded more than tenfold. From 2002-2005, the company posted receipts from building operations from CZK 1.3 to 1.8 bn while maintaining premium quality of the performed work. In 2006, company turnover increased to CZK 2.9 bn; 2007 may be designated as a record-breaking year, as the company’s turnover reached CZK 3.7 bn. In 2008, GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r.o. posted a turnover of CZK 3.4 bn and in 2009, as a result of the economic crisis, nearly CZK 2.3 bn. The company has implemented and respects quality standards compatible with EU regulations. The company’s objective is to ensure long-term prosperity, development and stability of the entire company.

In 2007, the company expanded its facilities with a modern logistic centre in Hněvotín, featuring new warehouse buildings boasting parameters common in the EU, and implemented a new transport logistic and organisation system. An annex to the administrative building topped up the implementation of essential changes and the conversion to a modern construction company.

GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r.o. holds a quality certificate (ČSN EN ISO 9001:2009), an environment certificate (ČSN EN ISO 14001:2005), a safety at work certificate (ČSN OHSAS 18001:2008), and Certificate No. 11/2010 within the system of certified construction providers, in accordance with Act 137/2006 Coll., on public contracts.

Among the successes of GEMO, there is the award received by the GEMO Hotel in the contest for "Building of the Year, 1995", organized during the sixth FOR ARCH 95 International Fair in Prague. In the contest for "Building of the Year, 1996", the building of the State District and Regional Archive in Olomouc was nominated as being among the 15 most successful structures in the Czech Republic. The jury particularly appreciated the complexity and originality of the structure and the high quality of construction work. In the contest for excellent reinforced-concrete structures, the building of the State District and Regional Archive in Olomouc was given a special award in 1996 by the Czech Society for Concrete and Masonry, Czech Society of Civil Engineers. In the contest for "Building of the Year, 1999", the structure of the PORSCHE Sales and Service Centre in Brno was among the 15 most successful structures in the Czech Republic, where the jury particularly appreciated the original use of the structure with respect to the functional structure of the entire complex. In the contest for "Building of the Year, 2000", the structure of the GRUNDFOS complex in Olomouc was among the 15 most successful structures in the Czech Republic. In 2001 - 2002, GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r.o. was awarded 1st prize in the Olomouc Region Structures contest in the category of industrial structures for the building of Torrington Olomouc, 2nd place in the category of community structures for the building of Haná Entertainment-Shopping centre, 2nd place in the category of residential structures for the residential building in Balbínova Street in Olomouc and 2nd place in the category of Renovation of Listed Structures for the Renovation of Building at 21 Pavelčákova Street, Olomouc, for which Gemo also obtained a diploma for Facade of Year 2002. In 2004 GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r.o. received the award for “Building of the Year, 2004” in the Olomouc Region in the category of Civic Facilities for its newly constructed administration building on Dlouhá Street in Olomouc. This contemporary, modern, and conservatively conceived work was also nominated for the award “Building of the Year, 2005” and received two additional awards in this competition, the ABF FOUNDATION AWARD for a very progressive and thorough approach to the use of Information Technology in operating and maintaining the building, as well as in anti-flood measures, and the STAVITEL (BUILDER) MAGAZINE award for very sensitive detail design with respect to architectural, construction, and user requirements. In 2007 the company was honoured with another award – nomination for the title “Building of the Year, 2007” for the erection of the Bang & Olufsen production facility in Kopřivnice; this building of great architectural interest also received an award from STAVITEL (BUILDER) MAGAZINE (published by Economia, a.s.) for the best construction-architectural detail of a building. Finally, in 2008, the company was awarded a Certificate of Merit in the “Building of the Year, 2008” in the Olomouc Region contest in the category of Civic Facilities for the annex to its administration building on Dlouhá Street in Olomouc.

Future plans

One of the strategic objectives of GEMO OLOMOUC, spol. s r.o. is to extend its competence into new sectors, particularly as regards ecological buildings, with a subsequent establishment of independent centres focusing on these areas. In addition, the company will focus on the further strengthening and development of its developer and engineering services; it is currently preparing new building projects in residential, community and industrial construction.
